About Shift

Ink blot

Shift explores themes such as love, loss, grief and the powerful impact trauma can have on one's identity. Through the conflict between doctor and nurse, the inherent tension between medical model psychiatry and patient focused / trauma informed care and practice is explored.

I wrote Shift while grappling with my own grief over the loss of my mother. My work in the mental health field which spans the past 20 years has endowed me with a deep understanding of some of the limitations of medical model psychiatry and I found this three-hander medical thriller/tragedy a great vehicle through which to explore this.
